Trip to Nepal
October 2006
Day 16- Marpha to Ghasa

This was a long day and the first day where rain was a factor.  It rained hard enough to break out the raingear and cover the packs.  Being an agricultural area, the paths through town involve avoiding constant diligence against stepping into animal crap, but with the rain, forget about it; it seeps under the flagstones and shoots out as you walk.  It's amazing that the children in these towns grow up healthy.

The Kaligandaki River- very wide, and easy enough to walk along.
After the town of Tukuche came a decision point - walk around this arm of the river, or wade across the river.  For the first time on this trip, I asked for a walking stick to better keep my balance, as I was going to be walking barefoot across this cold current.  But the walking stick broke immediately.  It was not quite toe-curling cold, but numbing cold.  I took this picture of the people coming after us.
Low rain clouds.
Waling through the town of Kalopani.
Where we stayed for the night.  There was a Japanese couple here, and their Nepalese guide spoke Japanese.  Unfortunately, the clothes I washed never dried that night, so I had to break out a second t-shirt.
Our neighbors.
