Trip to Nepal

Day 26-27 - Kathmandu and Off
It was again a Hindu holiday in Kathmandu (Darwai?) and things were colorful and loud. There is a tradition during this time like Halloween in the US where kids come around in groups to businesses (maybe to private homes, but I wasn't around anything but businesses in Kathmandu) and sing until they give the kids some money. Also, roving musical groups come around playing their songs; also a large group of blind young people were encountered in Thamel singing for tourists to support the blind cause.
The weather was sunny and warm, for the most part, which is such a plus on a vacation.
Back in Thamel - it rained the previous night and the sun had yet to burn through, but it did later.
I think this is from Kot Square, the sqare adjacent to Durbar Square. I had thought it was Durbar at the time. Durbar Square is a UNESCO World Heritage List site. |

See the Himalayas from the airplane (be sure to sit on left side of plane). From here, it was a long travel day by air: Kathmandu to Bangkok, Bangkok to Singapore, Singapore to Tokyo, Tokyo to Washington DC.
